Rotary Club Amman Hosts Abu-Ghazaleh

AMMAN-------June 21, 2015-------- Under the patronage of HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org), the Rotary Club of Amman held its general meeting in the presence of a group of members of Jordan Rotary clubs and businessmen under the title “Rotary Day”.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh stressed in his speech on the importance of the Club's role in shouldering social responsibility and assuming its role in the support of all development and progress requirements in learning and knowledge field.

He stressed on the necessity to introduce information technology in teaching from the stage of basic education and adopt digital education under international standards as a path parallel to traditional education, pointing to the leading role of Rotarians in education and in the pursuit of literacy eradication.

He called for the need for a culture of research in the learning stages, especially related to cognitive research, with a view to help see future knowledge-makers graduating from universities, noting that it is not important to simply provide education to each and every citizen but to provide approved and recognized education for the international labor market.

About the future of education and learning, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh indicated that in 2020 at least 20% of the American universities will be fully digital and that Finland has cancelled the requirements of teaching written language and permitted schools to teach digital language only.

He added that in 2050 the world will reach a stage of unity between man and machine referred to by Singularity, learning will be conducted through artificial intelligence, teachers will serve as technical instructors instead of regular teachers, and the teaching era will give way to the learning one.

He explained that knowledge making (cognitive inventions) is the future of wealth-making and should be the objective of teaching and learning.

He pointed out the importance of training for the purpose of employment, stressing on the partnership between the academic sector and businesses in creating genuine linkage and highlighting the important role of universities in the development of the ability of young people and preparing them to access the labor market.

The event witnessed a Q&A session and an honorary shield was presented to Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh.
