Abu-Ghazaleh Patronizes Crossing Light Photography & Short Film Awards Ceremony

AMMAN –---- September 9, 2015 -------HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, chairman of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization (TAG-Org)  patronized the ceremony for announcing the winners of the 2nd edition of the Crossing Light Photography & Short Films Contest which was held at Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Knowledge Forum.

Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh expressed his support this kind of competition which is organized by Crossing Light Team for the second year in a row stressing that this artistic work is basically characterized by creativity and talent where the work of one photographer differs from another.

"Photography is considered an art just like music and painting, though it is very much closer to the latter," he said.

According to Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh, the significance of the contest is attributed to the advancement in the ICT tools, which provide the appropriate conditions and environment for the youth innovation in the field with the least costs and efforts.

“Every smart phone or device has now photographing application which gives the same level of accuracy of those used by experts, where they enable users to produce high-quality videos by using the telephone only,” He said.

He added that photography is very important for documentation and history.

“TAG-Org has more than 75,000 images and 1,500 videos posted on the Internet narrating the Organization’s story and history over the time and throughout different stages.”

His Excellency referred to the beginning of inventing the camera where he explained that the first one to be described existed more than 1,000 years ago and that was of the Arab scientist Ibn Al-Haytham, and the word "Camera" is derived from the Arabic word “Qumra” which means ‘the dark room.’

For his part, Head of the Crossing Light team Mr. Bassam Al-Shayeb voiced gratitude to Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh for his patronage of the ceremony where he pointed out that they wanted His Excellency to patronize this ceremony for the second year in a row because it takes two to tango and to have TAG-Org the supporting hand to have full creativity and evolve the innovative energy of the youth.

According to Mr. Al-Shayeb, the team has been endeavoring and hoping since the contest’s establishment to document humanitarian moments and positive societal behaviors by producing cultural and awareness programs to build a cultural thinking to upgrade and guide the youth.

The contest aims at promoting the culture of photography and documentation; documenting moments in photos; exploring Arab talents; encouraging amateurs and professionals; and collecting the largest number of photos and clips from all over the Arab region and the world.

The competition includes six topics: Black & White; Portraits; Nature and Beauty; Bless of Suffering; Spirit of Ramadan; in addition to no more than two minutes Short Film.

At the end of the ceremony, the winners received their awards for their participation, and the team presented a "Bless of Suffering" souvenir picture as a gift to Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh representing a hand painted picture when he was 10 years old. It depicts his life when started with his displacement from his hometown Jaffa.
