    Abu-Ghazaleh Honors Distinguished UNRWA Schools Media in Education Performers

    AMMAN - HE Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh patronized a ceremony honoring outstanding participants in the ‘Integration of Media and Informatics in the Educational Process’ initiative at UNRWA schools.
    The initiative aims at building student capacity for success in dealing with various types of media, assessment of published content and information exchange with media outlets.
    During the event, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh extended his gratitude to those working towards implementing the initiative led by Mr. Roger Davies, UNRWA Director of Operations in Jordan, affirming that such initiatives make students more proficient in facing future challenges by taking into consideration the importance of media and its impact on all segments of society, particularly children and youth. 
    He also expressed pride at Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization’s contribution to this initiative, expressing readiness in providing required resources particularly fully equipped knowledge centers and free Internet access to students.
    In addition, Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh highly praised UNRWA and its efforts in Jordan, and all other countries, for its support of refugees, attributing much of the credit for his own personal success to UNRWA, which granted him the opportunity to attend the American University in Lebanon.
    Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh talked about  Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Organization’s success story, stressing the importance of setting goals and a mission and working hard to achieve them.


    “We as Palestinian refugees have to be proud because we are refugees and we are living in Jordan where His Majesty the late King Hussein and then HM King Abdullah II granted us a homeland.”
    Meanwhile, Mr. Davies highly acknowledged the initiatives contributed by Dr. Abu-Ghazaleh in cooperation with UNRWA, pointing out the significance of this particular initiative which allows students to differentiate between accurate and false information and determine the impact of disseminating information in media outlets taking into account the effect of media on communities.  
    He invited students who were beneficiaries of this initiative to disseminate the knowledge they gained to their colleagues, families and community reaffirming his pride at UNRWA's Jordan initiatives which offers quality education despite the financial hardships and challenges they face.
    For his part, Director of the initiative Mr. Basem Faris said that this initiative is an extension of the e-library program, which was one of the outputs of the Educational Reform Strategy.
    He added "we are honoring a host of students, teachers, and school principals who contributed to the success of this experience through their hard work and determination to develop our students' skills in the digital community outside the school walls."
    He pointed out that the program is in its initial phase and will require joint forces to reform schools into culture incubators providing students with the opportunity to clearly express their thoughts by improving their written and oral expression through advanced tools of information and communication technology that will enable them to disseminate knowledge. 
    With regards to the participating schools in the initiative, Ms. Dalia Hussein from Marka Secondary School stated that 20 activities through curricular and extracurricular activities have been conducted, based on critical thinking, creative thinking, active learning, learning through play, and analysis skills in accordance with concepts and vision of the Educational Reform Strategy.
    Media and IT education is a set of education strategies in which students learn how to deal with and access media and sources of information enabling them to understand, criticize, and participate in the media and information content. The media and IT education initiative covers ten UNRWA schools across Jordan.
